Well I have a remedy for my itchy, dry/flaky scalp...it works well for me and I'd like to share it with you all. I apply Aphogee Essential Oils (or a mixture of NOW Essential Oils) directly to my scalp/hair, massage it in, apply a shower cap/sit under a hooded dryer (med heat) for 10 minutes ( to open the hair shaft/cuticle for better penetration and the hot oil treatment will help prevent the hair/scalp from over drying during the shampooing process). I do a one lathering shampoo...massaging the scalp with my fingertips to remove the dead skin and produce blood flow (one lathering is to prevent removing all the oil from my scalp). The last step before styling is a deep condition...this is to restore the hairs condition to a healthier state. An itchy scalp can be a really irritating as well as annoying problem, and can affect anyone. There are several causes of itchy scalp and if you do not bother to seek treatment at the right time, the condition can turn even worse. Few causes include hereditary traits, vitamin imbalance, working under central heating or air conditioning, stress, pollution, inadequate rinsing of the shampoo and continuous use of a strong shampoo.
Itchy scalp is easily curable using certain remedies. If you wish to combat this annoying problem of itchy scalp, then here are few tips that you can surely try out.
Try Any Of These Tips To Stop Your Itchy Scalp
1. Coconut oil (virgin):
Use coconut oil (virgin coconut oil), as they are the best moisturizers. Apply few drops of virgin coconut oil or dab some shea butter on scalp to alleviate itching. This treatment also ensures protection from brittleness of hair and gives them a healthy shine.
2. Rinse your hair properly:
The main reason for itchy scalp, according to the experts is improper rinsing of the shampoo. Sometimes, when washing your hair, you may still leave behind a residue of shampoo in scalp, which results in itchy scalp. To combat this, you can try out this traditional homemade treatment.
After washing your hair with shampoo, take three to four tablespoons of acetum (vinegar) and dissolve it in a cupful of lukewarm water. Apply this mixture on your hair. Make sure that the solution reaches the scalp, leave it on your hair for four to five minutes, and then rinse off the scalp with water. Vinegar removes the residue of shampoo, conditioner or hair products and restores the pH balance of your scalp as well as hair.
3. Avoid Using Any Hair Products:
Hair products such as mousse, hair gels contain harsh chemicals that affect the pH balance of hair and causes irritation of scalp. Avoid using such harsh chemicals. Instead, opt for natural products.
4. Oat meal remedy:
This is a great homemade remedy to treat itchy scalp. Take about ¼ cup of oatmeal. Soak it in water for half an hour, mix it thoroughly and filter the mixture in some other cup. Add five drops of lavender oil to the oatmeal filtrate or, and if you do not have lavender oil, you can boil the stalks of lavender in water.
Next, add five drops of rosemary to the solution (of oatmeal and lavender). In case you do not have rosemary, you may add stalks of rosemary.
Mix all this solutions thoroughly and dab it on your scalp. Leave it for 10 minutes.
5. Avoid processed food:
Certain foodstuffs such as junk foods, soft drinks, alcohol, food containing additives, artificial flavors actually disseminate and destroy the essential vitamins from the body and make your scalp dry and itchy.
Consume Foods That Help To Retain Moisture
Fruits such as watermelon, apples, sweet limes, grapes and green leafy vegetables provide necessary nourishment to the body and hair. They help to retain the moisture levels in scalp by keeping the skin hydrated. Also, drink at least six glasses of water each day.
Other types of oil such as thyme oil and rosemary oil possess natural anti-itch solutions. Dilute such oils in water and apply few drops on your scalp to combat itchy scalp.
