If you believe the commercials that you see on television (and why should you?), one tiny flake of dandruff can ruin your entire life. If one speck of dandruff falls at an inopportune moment, your life is over, so you might as well go ahead and cancel the next 60 or 70 years because nothing can ever fix this horrific problem. Please! Nobody wants dandruff, and nobody goes out and tries to BUY scalp eczema, but if you should have dandruff or scalp eczema, it isn't the end of the world.
For some reason, dandruff and scalp eczema are worse during the cold weather months. I'm not sure whether it is the cold weather that makes it worse or the dry heat in homes that makes it worse, but either way, dandruff and scalp eczema are always worse during winter. So you must be particularly diligent about caring for your scalp in cold weather.
Hundreds of shampoos are available over the counter to help relieve dry, itchy, and flaky scalp. Try them. If one doesn't work well, try another. If your scalp becomes red and irritated, you need to see your doctor.
Your doctor can prescribe more potent shampoos and creams and salves to help relieve the itch and redness. I wish I could tell you that there is a cure for dandruff and scalp eczema, but I can't. It will get better with treatment, and it will get better when the weather gets warm, but it will never be really gone. You will likely have to treat dandruff and scalp eczema forever. The good news is that dandruff and scalp eczema aren't fatal, the treatments to control it aren't painful and a flake of dandruff isn't going to ruin your life!
