Essential oils are fundamental ingredients in hair care products. From sage to thyme and fenugreek, essential oil extracts developed from organic and natural sources, help to soothe the scalp, while promoting hair growth, moisturizing and adding body and manageability. Let's take a look at the more common essential oils for hair products.

Basil: Basil promotes growth by stimulating circulation and works well with fenugreek and ivy burdock herbs as well. Basil is used in many shampoos and conditioners that are designed for scalp health. Each shampoo that uses basil is designed to nurture the scalp while enhancing circulation to the root of the hair which brings much needed blood flow.

Burdock: Not too many hair care products carry burdock and that is a shame because it is so beneficial to the scalp and to proper hair growth. It helps with skin, scalp and hair cell renewal. It also helps to stimulate blood flow to the root of the hair. Burdock Root Essential oil is also supposed to help with hair loss in both men and women.

Chamomile: Chamomile is the most soothing of the essential oils for the hair and scalp and is included in a lot of shampoos or conditioners that are made for soothing the scalp. Chamomile helps to retract skin cells that have been inflamed from chemical procedures, the sun and helps with those that have scaly scalps in including a lot of white flakes or psoriasis. Specialty shampoos and conditioners that contain chamomile can help a number of scalp problems.

Fenugreek: Fenugreek has long been used for stimulating blood flow especially to minor capillaries such as those that feed the hair root. Fenugreek makes for a great topical application like in shampoos, conditioners and in hair tonics.

Fenugreek for hair care is an excellent choice especially for those that are having problems with hair growth. Fenugreek also compliments sage, clary sage, lemongrass, lemon peel, burdock and ivy extract.

Lavender can be used in any type of hair product as it does a good job of soothing the scalp and the hair. Many people that order baby shampoo with lavender as it helps to calm infants. This calming affect is felt a long time after the calming shampoo or baby wash has been rinsed. Effects: Soothing, Relaxing. Aroma: Middle note. Scent: Sweet, Herbal, Fruity Combines well with: Bergamot, Geranium

Lemon Essential Oil: Lemon Essential oil gives golden highlights. It works well for a treatment for dry scalp, dandruff, lice, and under active sebaceous glands. The sebum on the hair is what keeps it from dry out. Curly hair tends to be more dry and can benefit from lemon essential oils. Be very careful to only use lemon on hair that is too oily as this can seriously dry out the hair after just one washing or rinse.

Myrrh: Myrrh is not typically used in hair care products. If it is then Myrrh is typically used for those have greasy hair and those that want a more purified scalp. It is used in very small quantities.

Peppermint: Peppermint helps to stimulate blood flow to the root of the hair. This helps the hair to receive proper nourishment and to grow correctly. It is a great for hair that is growing slow or hair that is thinning. Peppermint makes the scalp tingle and this is what stimulates the blood flow to the hair. This stimulation can help with hair loss and thinning hair in women and men.

Rose Essential Oil: We love the smell of Rose and love the way that it feels in the hair but the only problem with rose for hair products like shampoo is that it costs a lot of money for rose essential oil.

Rosemary essential oil works great for dry hair and dandruff as well as itchy scalp! Effects: Refreshing, Stimulating. Aroma: Middle note. Scent: Refreshing, Woody, Herbal. Combines well with: Cedarwood, Geranium, Juniper

Sage is one of the best scalp clarifiers that is available from both natural and un-natural sources. It deep cleanses impurities away from the scalp and works well with other herbs to heal scalp problems such as scalp psoriasis and helps when used with zinc to end dandruff symptoms. It is one of the most effective oils to develop a dandruff shampoo.

Clary Sage native to southern Europe, but cultivated worldwide, esp. the Mediterranean region, is a stout biennial or perennial herb up to 1 meter high with large, hairy leaves, green with a hint of purple, and small blue flowers. The oil is obtained by steam distillation from the flowering tops and leaves. Though employed in ancient times and in the Middle Ages for its curative properties, it seems to have fallen into disuse as a medicinal plant, though revived to a certain extent towards the end of the nineteenth century. The English name Clary originates in the Latin specific name sclarea, a word derived from clarus (clear). This name Clary was gradually modified into 'Clear Eye,' one of the popular names and generally explained from the fact that the seeds have been employed for clearing the sight, being so mucilaginous that a decoction from them placed in the eye would 'clear' it from any small foreign body, the presence of which might have caused irritation.

Historically, clary sage has been highly esteemed and used for digestive disorders, kidney disease, uterine and menstrual complaints, acne, boils, dandruff, hair loss, oily skin, wrinkles, and general nerve tonic. The oil and absolute are used as fragrance components and fixatives in soaps, detergents, cosmetics and perfumes. It has mostly been employed in disordered states of the digestion, and has also proved useful in kidney diseases.

Clary sage blends well with: juniper, lavender, cilantro, pine, carsomon, geranium, sandlewood, jasmine, frankincense, and citrus oils. It is nontoxic, nonirritant and no sensitizing so it does not cause irritation when used in shampoos or skin care products.

Tea Tree Oil: Works daily to get to the heart of dandruff other scalp conditions that can be helped with Tea Tree oil as it works to purify the scalp. It is often included with Jojoba oil for hair as the two are used to deep cleanse the scalp. Tea tree oil works extremely good for those that suffer from scalp psoriasis and scalp dandruff.

Thyme essential oils and herbs for great hair! Thyme is often used is deep cleansing shampoo and works well when used with even the mildest cleansing agents. It works well when combined with other anti oily scalp products such as Thyme and sage. Yling Ylang can be combined with herbs as well for a desired anti dandruff shampoo.

Ylang ylang is a tall tropical tree up to 20m high with large, tender, fragrant flowers, which can be pink, mauve or yellow. The yellow flowers are considered best for the extraction of essential oil. Ylang Ylang is from the first part of the distillation process, and is considered by most to be the best. This essential oil has properties: aphrodisiac, anti-depressant, anti-infectious, antiseborrheic, antiseptic, euphoric, hypotensive, nervine, regulator, sedative (nervous), stimulant (circulatory), tonic. Historically, it has been used for cosmetic and hair care, skin diseases, to prevent fever and fight infections. Is also used to soothe insect bites. Ylang Ylang blends well with lavender, sandalwood, rosewood, jasmine, vetiver, opopanax, bergamot, mimosa, cassie and rose. It is non-toxic, non-irritant and a few cases of sensitization have been reported.

So, there is a good summary and gives you a little bit of helpful "ammunition" next time you might stop to look at the ingredients of your favorite hair care product. All told, hair care is the sum of its ingredients and effectiveness is often a result of a combination of ingredients that help dry hair oily or greasy hair, hair growth and general hair health.

Do Remedies For Dry Scalp Really Work?

-----------------ใส่ตรงนี้คับ----------------

There are literally hundreds of remedies for dry scalp - over-the-counter shampoos and creams, prescription concoctions and home-made recipes all claiming to relieve the torment of dry, itchy scalp. How do you know which ones really work? To some degree it will be trial and error to find the remedy that works for you, as every person has different body chemistry, uses different shampoos and styling products and has different styling routines. Finding a remedy that really works for you will involve a level of detective work to find the source of your dry scalp.

There are many different causes of dry scalp - but mainly they are categorized into internal and external causes. Internal causes are generally due to poor nutrition or poor health. Your scalp will not be the only skin that demonstrates the effects of vitamin deficiencies - basically the lack of enough vitamin C or B will cause skin problems so be sure you are getting enough of these important nutrients. External causes are more likely to be environmental (weather, air-conditioning etc) or self-induced through over processing or using product with harsh detergents or chemicals. You can't control the weather, but you can control the products you use and how you treat your scalp - and when problems occur you can choose one of the many remedies for dry scalp to help restore scalp health.

You may have heard it said before that we are 'too clean' in our modern era. It is not that we want to be dirty, but over washing of our skin and our hair has led to a host of problems as we strip away the natural oils that protect our skin from damage. One of the best remedies for dry scalp is to simply wash your hair less often. If this isn't practical then you want to look at changing the products you use to avoid harsh detergents and chemicals. Once you have done this it will be simple to keep your scalp from getting dry in the future.

To start the healing process choose one of the remedies for dry scalp that uses natural ingredients and contains jojoba or coconut oil to help your body restore natural oil production. If you have dandruff use a shampoo that contains zinc pyrithione or selenium sulfide, but only once a week so as not to over-dry the scalp. Dry scalp can be a problem of the past if you respect your skin and use gentle effective products.

Do Hair Growth Shampoos Work?

-----------------ใส่ตรงนี้คับ----------------

There are many shampoos that are being advertised as hair growth shampoos. Do these shampoos really help to promote faster growth or are they just a marketing gimmick? A search on the Internet and one can find answers that are on the both extremes of yes and no. Whose words are more credible? Let's find out in this article.

To derive at an informed conclusion about these shampoos, one has to look to Science. The first fact that one has to realize is that your tresses are essentially dead; no shampoo in the world can make the dead tresses grow. However what these shampoos do is stimulate growth at the scalp and root level.

A normal person's hair will grow at a rate of half an inch to three quarter of an inch a month. Research has proven that hair can grow faster. Even more interesting is the discovery that herbs can help to stimulate the anagen phase by up to 40%. One of the most effective herbs is hibiscus and its effects on growing hair are remarkable. The other herbs include pepper mint and Eclipta Alba.

In 2008, Arch Dermatol Res had a breakthrough discovery. His research centers on the effects of Eclipta Alba on hair growth activity in male albino rats. His findings revealed that the herb helped to quicken the process of growth, and the test subjects experienced growth as well as an increase in the number of hair follicles. This result was compared side by side against that of the effects of minodoxill, and the result favored the herb. This proves that hair growth shampoos can work and that your tresses can indeed be stimulated. The key is using the right herb in the right quantity in a shampoo. When doe correctly and when used as an ingredient, the shampoo can increase hair growth abilities.

A Good hair growth shampoo will not only stimulate the growth of new tresses, it will also help to boost the anagen phase, which is the growth phase of a person mane.

However, not all hair growth shampoos work in the same manner. There are many herbal shampoos that will aid in the growth process but not many contain the right herbs. Some shampoos also lack a sufficient amount of the herb for it to take effect. Many of these products have minuscule amounts of the herb; manufacturers do this just to slap on the herb's name on the label and brand is as a hair growth shampoo.

One effective product is called Mira hair shampoo. The Mira line also carries hair gel and oils. The herbs used in the products are carefully selected. With every Mira hair product comes a free herbal shampoo that is excellent for eliminating problems such as dandruff and itchy scalp. The product will also help in fast hair growth.

With these points it is obvious that your tresses can grow faster. All you need is the right hair growth shampoo and you will grow a long healthy mane

Living with Scalp Psoriasis

Psoriasis is a genetic, non-contagious disease that affects the skin and joints. There are different types of this disease but the most common is plaque psoriasis. This type affects the skin by inflaming lesions and then covering with scaly white flakes.

This is caused by skin cells replicating at a heightened rate reproducing at eight times faster than the normal. Since cells develop in a matter of days instead of a month, build-up on the surface, and results in inflamed and scaled lesions. The flaky and shiny scales are the accumulated dead cells. Psoriasis is itchy and can be very painful at times.

According to the National Psoriasis Foundation, psoriasis affects approximately two to three percent of the world's population. The World Psoriasis Day Consortium reports ~125 million people are affected. Although any part of the body can be affected by this disease, it is most prevalent in the areas of the scalp, knees, elbows and torso. There is no known scientific cure for psoriasis, but there are skin care products and solutions available that provide temporary relief from the symptoms and healing of lesions.

Generally, those afflicted with Psoriasis have lesions on their body and scalp, though there are numerous reported cases of lesions being restricted to the scalp alone. Scalp psoriasis affects portions of the forehead, neck and behind the ears. Symptoms can be mild with fine dandruff-like flakes to extremely severe cases, with crusted flakes that often lead to hair loss.

Scalp psoriasis is often mistaken for severe dandruff. It is a source of insecurity and embarrassment due to its unsightly appearance and is often misunderstood by many thinking that the disease is contagious. Though there are reported instances where scalp psoriasis has disappeared or healed unassisted, that is rarely the case. There are treatments available that can vary depending on the severity of the disease. Treatments fall into three categories:

Topical Treatments

Medications that are applied directly to the skin. These include lotions, creams, ointments, shampoos or gels that reduce inflammation, normalize healthy skin production and slow skin cell reproduction. Topical treatments can give relief to mild and moderate cases, and in some cases, have been known to heal psoriasis altogether. Application of Emu Oil has shown to disrupt the out-of-control production of cells and to reduce inflammation. Emu oil is an anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial and is a transdermal moisturizer. It is used to heal wounds, rashes, burns, and scars and stretch marks.

Ultraviolet (UV) light or phototherapy or In-Home Soft Light Laser Application

If patients do not react favorably to topical applications, UV and laser light therapy is an option. Light exposure to UV either through direct exposure to the sun or with UV combs, tends to slow cell production. Patients often are required to shave all or part of their hair to allow maximum exposure. An alternative is soft light laser treatment.

Systemic & Medication Treatments

Either taken internally or with an injection. These are used for severe cases of scalp psoriasis and hair loss is a common side effect. Having a systemic treatment will usually clear scalp psoriasis but these treatments should only be prescribed by a dermatologists.

Scalp psoriasis will often subside with nominal treatment - either topical applications, exposure to sunlight, or by supplementing treatments with hair care that focuses on deep cleaning, moisturizing and healing the scalp. It is unusual for patients to suffer long periods of extreme scalp psoriasis if they seek medical help immediately and follow the treatments prescribed.

How to Soothe an Itchy Scalp - Top Tips to Soothe an Itchy Scalp

-----------------ใส่ตรงนี้คับ----------------

Image : http://www.flickr.com

An itchy scalp is a very common and very annoying problem. There are many products out there on the store shelves that claim to treat and soothe an itchy scalp problem, along with the dandruff, and other side effects, however, many of these products contain synthetically produced industrial-strength chemicals which can do more harm than good in the long run.

If you have a sensitive scalp or are allergic to any of the ingredients or chemicals, then it is more than likely that these products can cause and aggravate your itchy scalp condition.

Many folks these days are looking for natural herbal alternatives to treat their skin conditions and ailments and an itchy scalp problem is no exception. You see, as modern medicine has developed we seem to have abandoned many practices and natural treatments that were perfectly normal and effective in days gone by. The good news is that natural herbal remedies are effective at treating many common skin conditions and can be used when wondering how to soothe an itchy scalp.

Here I'll give you some quick tips on what you can do starting today to help to soothe your itchy scalp.

Identify and Change Your Hair Products

As mentioned earlier, in many cases an itchy scalp problem can be caused and certainly aggravated by simply using the wrong hair products, or an allergic or hypersensitivity to some of the ingredients.

Dandruff which is normally a side effect or accompaniment to an itchy scalp, is a fungal problem, in that funguses grow and thrive on the skin of the scalp. Changes in the scalp conditions, for example excessive dryness caused by strong chemicals can cause and increase the dandruff problem, due to changes in your immune system. However, Dermatitis, which is an excessive form of dandruff is actually a non-fungal dandruff, and is commonly the result of irritation directly from a product.

The worst culprits for irritation and general nastiness are the following types of chemicals. The next time you buy a shampoo take a look at the label and see how many you can identify:

Formaldehyde - inexpensive preservative and disinfectant; also a suspected cancer-causing toxin

Sodium Laureth Sulphate (SLS) - also used as an engine de-greaser

Alkyl-Phenol Ethioxlades - a chemical used in shampoos that has been shown to reduce sperm count

Selenium Sulfide - used in anti-dandruff shampoos and can cause irritation to skin, mucous membranes and eyes.

Pretty nasty stuff, huh?

To soothe an itchy scalp you can begin by changing your shampoo. Look for a 100% natural pH-balanced shampoo, ideally one containing Tea Tree Oil. The tea tree oil will help rebalance the condition of your scalp and fight off any infection. Adding an essential like Lavender or Chamomile will help to soothe an itchy scalp.
